The MAX5388NAUB+T is an analog-to-digital (D/A) converter that uses a combination of voltage division and resistance division. The MAX5388NAUB+T is used in data acquisition applications, such as digital potentiometers, to convert an analog voltage into a digital signal. It is part of a larger family of integrated circuits, the MAX5388 family, which also includes the MAX5388NAUB and the MAX5388NAUB+T, with decreasing power dissipation requirements.
In digital potentiometers, the MAX5388NAUB+T provides an 8-bit, non-volatile, digital potentiometer. The digital potentiometer permits an adjustable voltage divider ratio with 8-bits of bit resolution for setting a variety of full-scale volts or currents. The 16-pin MAX5388NAUB+T includes an SPI/I?C compatible serial interface or works as a slave device to a microcontroller. The part is also offered in a 20-pin TSSOP package. The MAX5388NAUB+T includes a 16-bit x 8 configuration EEPROM for non-volatile memory storage of the device configuration, calibration settings, and other user data.
The internal architecture of the MAX5388NAUB+T consists of three primary parts: A high precision non-volatile voltage divider, a low power HVCMOS differential amplifier, and a high speed 10-bit ADC. The non-volatile voltage divider consists of small metal oxide polysilicon thin film resistors, with a gain and offset error correction DAC. The non-volatile voltage divider forms the basis of the output divider ratio, which is precisely adjustable through the serial interface. The HVCMOS differential amplifier accelerates the ADC conversion process. Finally, the 10-bit ADC is used to digitize the output of the amplifier, and convert it into a digital signal.The device is built to operate over a wide range of voltage and temperature, from -40°C to +85°C and up to 5.5V for VDD. The part is also available in extended temperature and voltage ranges, ranging from -55°C to +125°C and up to 6.75V for VDD.
The MAX5388NAUB+T is ideal for applications that require accurate and reliable analog-to-digital conversion, such as digital potentiometers, gas gauges and pressure sensors, handheld instrumentation and data loggers, automotive applications, and telecommunication systems. It provides excellent accuracy, low power consumption, and wide operating temperature and voltage ranges.
