The MAX544XEVKIT, an evaluation board for digital to analog converters (DACs), enables engineers to easily test out the MAX5441/MAX5443/MAX5445 16-bit buffered voltage output DACs from Maxim Integrated. It is a great tool to evaluate the performance of the MAX544x series, consisting of the MAX5441 2-channel buffered DAC and the MAX5443 single channel un-buffered output DAC and MAX5445 buffered current output DAC. This board helps tremendously by providing an easy and convenient way to examine the features and performance of the device.

The MAX544XEVKIT contains all of the components necessary to evaluate the device, including a 0.1" board-to-board connector to connect to the target application board. The kit can be connected to the target application board via the board-to-board connector and utilizes the I2C bus to control the device. Once connected, the user can employ the included graphical user interface (GUI) to read, write, and/or monitor the output of the device.

The MAX544x EVKIT also offers a variety of signal sources, including the 0-10 V and -10V to 10V for each channel of the MAX5441/MAX5443, as well as a 0-20 mA and 0-10 mA for the MAX5445. These outputs can be used to independently set the intensity of each channel as desired. The software also offers a convenient way to control the individual channel intensities as well as the total output. This allows designers to quickly and easily evaluate their device.

Users can also take advantage of the LED driver and PWM output of the MAX544xEVKIT to develop user-specific design solutions. The LED driver provides an independent control of the brightness of each channel while the PWM output allows for independent control of the duty cycle for each channel. This provides designers with an extra layer of flexibility when planning their design.

The MAX544x EVKIT also includes an extensive signal pattern generator as well as an external digital-to-analog driver module for even more design flexibility. The signal pattern generator allows designers to generate arbitrary waveforms as desired and the external driver module can provide up to 4mA of current drive for each channel. With these features, design engineers can quickly and easily evaluate the performance of the device.

The MAX544x EVKIT features a debugger to monitor the performance of the device as well as a power supply selection switch that supports both an external and internal power supply. Additionally, the kit includes a 16-bit counter that allows designers to generate precise and accurate pulses of arbitrary frequency and width. This makes the kit an excellent tool for evaluating the performance of the device.
