The MAX545ACSD+ is a precision, single-channel 8-bit Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) that can be used in a wide variety of data acquisition applications. The integrated design includes a full-featured dual-output PGA (programmable gain amplifier) that supports both single-ended and differential inputs, along with a 4V to 20V analog supply. The MAX545ACSD+ integrates a pair of high gain amplifiers, filter, voltage reference, and output stage into a single 8-bit Digital to Analog Converter. The digital input is a 3.3V CMOS logic and the analog output is a two quadrant multiplier capable of outputting both positive and negative voltage swings. The PGA provides a programmable gain that can be set from 1V/V to 512V/V. The decoupling capacitor, that is located between the single-ended and differential inputs, eliminates any power supply noise that could adversely effect the PGA performance.

The integrated voltage reference, with an adjustable output range from 4V to 20V, provides two-level adjustment. The internal reference, with a range of 4V to 20V, is trimmed to a high degree of accuracy, while the external reference makes possible either a positive or negative output range, depending on the onboard decoupling capacitor. The MAX545ACSD+ comes with an adjustable settling time that can be adjusted to reduce or increase the settling time, when high accuracy is required.

The MAX545ACSD+ includes an integrated flash programming unit, which can be used to set the gain range. The internal flash ROM can hold up to 32 gain settings. The external pins can also be used to control the gain settings, allowing for flexible system control. The programmable amplifier gains can be selected in 4 different power supply voltages, 4V, 11V, 14V, and 24V. This ensures that the PGA performance is maintained at different supply voltages.
