Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) are devices used for converting digital signals into analog signals. The MAX549ACPA is a DAC device used for providing a digital signal with a corresponding analog approximation. In order for the analog output voltage to be accurate, the transfer function is programmed via externally applied resistors, with which the transfer function of the contoured output is determined.

The MAX549ACPA uses a 2-stage conversion process for its operation. In the first stage, the digital data is converted into a single bit representation, with the MSB corresponding to the higher voltage output and the subsequent 7-bits corresponding to the lower voltage output. In the second stage, the single bit representation is converted into an analog output voltage. This is done by combining the 7-bit digital output with either a rising-edge or a falling-edge transfer curve, resulting in a controlled output voltage.

The MAX549ACPA features a shutdown mode which, when enabled, reduces the power consumption of the device and helps to minimize noise. The device also features an active low output enable line which can be used to control the analogue output voltage range. The device is capable of operation at temperatures between -40°C and +85°C.
