The MAX5974CETE+ is an integrated circuit designed to provide an efficient, reliable and cost-effective solution for power management. This integrated circuit operates on a wide range of AC/DC and offline switcher applications, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of power supply designs.
The MAX5974CETE+ is a double-ended primary-side regulated flyback converter with fully integrated gate drive and postregulation circuitry. It offers single-sided control of a buck boost converter, allowing for wide operating ranges, wide dynamic load ranges and up to 93% efficiency with minimal external components. The MAX5974CETE+ can accept input voltages from 12V to 420V and is rated for up to 100W of continuous power. It incorporates an on-chip analog-to-digital converter that allows for remote monitoring and control of the power supply. The MAX5974CETE+ offers integrated cycle-by-cycle current limit, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, overcurrent protection and short-circuit protection.
The MAX5974CETE+ is designed to operate a wide range of AC/DC and offline switcher topologies, ranging from buck boost, flyback and forward converters to adaptive discontinuous conduction mode, discontinuous conduction mode and critical conduction mode. The wide range of compatibility further enhances the flexibility of the MAX5974CETE+ for use in a wide range of power supply designs. The double-ended primary-side regulation reduces component count and complexity by eliminating the need for an external controller.
The MAX5974CETE+ circuitry requires only a minimum of four external components for operation. It contains a high-side power MOSFET and an adjustable constant-on-time PWM controller that enables cycle-by-cycle current limit and overvoltage protection. The PWM controller drives an external high-side power MOSFET or IGBT to control switching frequency and power delivery. The MAX5974CETE+ also contains an on-chip postregulation circuitry that further reduces component count.
The postregulation circuitry of the MAX5974CETE+ is designed to minimize output ripple and improve thermal performance. Its on-chip low quiescent current, low-dropout Bias regulator provides 6V output to power the PWM controller and postregulation circuitry. Additionally, the MAX5974CETE+ can accept external control signals from an external microcontroller to enable remote monitoring and control.
The MAX5974CETE+ is suitable for a wide range of power supply applications, such as server, telecom, industrial and medical, as well as home lighting, air conditioning and charging. This integrated circuit offers efficient, reliable and cost-effective power management solutions for any power supply design.
