The PWM controller drives an external high-side power MOSFET or IGBT to control switching frequency and power delivery. The MAX5974CETE+ also contains an on-chip postregulation circuitry that further reduces component count.

The postregulation circuitry of the MAX5974CETE+ is designed to minimize output ripple and improve thermal performance. Its on-chip low quiescent current, low-dropout Bias regulator provides 6V output to power the PWM controller and postregulation circuitry. Additionally, the MAX5974CETE+ can accept external control signals from an external microcontroller to enable remote monitoring and control.
