The MAX6301CSA+T is a highly integrated supervisor device designed for provides a safe and reliable power system especially suitable for personal computers, servers, and telecom related equipments. It includes a reset monitor, power-on-reset (POR) timer, window watchdog, 2 dedicated RESET# connectors and temperature range from -40℃ to +85℃. Application Field

The MAX6301CSA+T is designed for personal computers, servers and telecom related equipment, used in a wide range of applications. e.g. Set-Top Boxes (STB) gateways, network attached storage (NAS), switches, routers, media dock, remote power station, console server, etc. In its application field, there are three primary ways to use this supervisor chip. Firstly, to provide a reliable signal to circuit boards when power supplies are disturbed, misbehaving or disconnected. Secondly, to analyze buffered and non-buffered power off conditions. Thirdly, in conjunction with a reset monitor, it is able to serve as a watchdog.

Working Principle

The MAX6301CSA+T has two independent channels providing management functions. The MAX6301’s working cycle is divided into three stages, namely Inactive/Sleep, Reset and Active.

Upon application of power, the MAX6301CSA+T enters the Inactive/Sleep mode. When the input voltage reaches an acceptable level, it will enter the Reset mode. This Reset mode lets the MAX6301CSA+T first check to see if there is any malfunction and then provide a reset signal if this happening. This reset signal makes sure that the circuit system’s normal operation is back, starting up the Active mode. During the Active mode operation, the MAX6301CSA+T continues to monitor the system, while protecting it from any emergency events.

When emergency events happen, the MAX6301CSA+T instantly restores the system to the initial valid state by automatically generating reset signal. In addition, Reset Monitor works hand in hand with Power-On Reset (POR) Timer and Window WDT to supervise the MAX6301CSA+T’s process in each different states.

The POR Timer provides an adjustable delay time from 1ms to 256ms depending on the customer’s requirements, enabling the system to fully power up before starting the operation. At the same time the Window WDT registers any movements if the system is out of order (inactivities), and takes corrective action if necessary. As a whole, The MAX6301CSA+T provides a reliable way to control the power supply and reset signals for personal computers, servers and telecom related equipment.
