Application Field

MAX6302EPA is a Supervisory device that provides reset, reset assert/deassert control and a low power supply operation detection function. It is suitable for use in any microprocessor-based systems that require accurate detection of power-on, power-on reset and precise Brown-Out Reset (BOR) monitoring in low as well as higher power applications. It is also ideal for system-level validation of digital power supplies, battery power management and monitoring.

The device is available in various packages including SOIC, TDFN, TSSOP and LLP. Its operating temperature range is from -40 to 85 °C suitable for a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications.

Working Principle

MAX6302EPA is a CMOS Supervisory device that integrates a voltage monitor, a detect-on-power-up timer and push-pull reset outputs. The device offers accurate supply voltage monitor and detect-on-power-up timing precision. It also includes a power-on reset (POR) circuit to guarantee proper system reset at power up.

The device can detect supply voltage levels as low as 1.4V and as high as 6.5V. When the Vcc falls below the reset threshold voltage (V TH ), the POR circuit asserts reset to the system. In addition, the integrated POR circuit also provides a delay during power up to ensure proper reset operation. The adjustable RST delay time is determined by the external C RST capacitor.

The device uses an internal low power detection circuit to detect low power supply voltage condition. When the supply voltage drops below a preset threshold, the Low Power Detect output (LP) is asserted to inform theprocessor core to reduce power consumption.

The reset output (RST) is assertive when VCC is lower than V TH and when the POR delay timer completes its timing cycle. The POWERGOOD output (PG) is normally low and becomes high when the device detects that VCC is above the V TH and when reset is asserted.
