Power management integrated circuits (PMICs) have been extensively used in embedded systems. PMICs, generally integrated with additional components such as microprocessors, memory, and multiple peripherals, assist in the design of power sources and facilitate the efficient, reliable, and cost effective operation of embedded systems. Specifically, PMIC - Supervisors are used to monitor system power and reset with precise threshold levels. The MAX6302ESA+ is a precision, reset supervisor circuit with the following features: low operating current, reset active-low output, precise reset threshold, low reset threshold voltage, low manual reset input threshold, and multiple manual reset input option.

In general, power-on-reset circuits offer a precise method for resetting microprocessors and other digital integrated circuits when the power supply is turned-on or when power drops below a specific threshold. Upon power-up, the MAX6302ESA+ monitors the VCC pin voltage and initiates a reset when the voltage is less than the reset output thresholds. The internal reset output is a rising-edge initiated active-low reset. An external control input may be used to pull the RCO pin low for releasing reset. The MAX6302ESA+ operates in two primary modes: active and idle. The transition from the active mode to the idle mode is triggered when the VCC pin voltage reaches the reset threshold and the RST pin is high. The transition from the idle mode to the active mode is triggered when the VCC pin voltage reaches the reset threshold and RST is low.

In addition, the MAX6302ESA+ includes a wide range of protection features. The device offers reverse-battery protection, soft-start protection to minimize inrush current during power-up, thermal shutdown protection to protect the device from excessive temperature rises, and reset-on-power-fail input for resetting the system during a power-failure event.
