The MAX631ACPA + is a high efficiency, monolithic switching regulator with integrated power switch, control circuits and post regulator for post-regulating output voltage. It is a DC-DC switching regulator which is designed for isolated power supplies. It has a variety of uses such as direct 2V to 18 V input voltage conversion, adjustable voltage outputs, circuit protection, low input current and adjustable switching frequency. This device is ideal for applications that require a high efficiency and low output voltage ripple.
The MAX631ACPA + utilizes Resonant Mode control techniques to enable high efficiency over wide input and output voltage ranges. It also provides a convenient, user-defined low power connection-mode that limits the output current to a fraction of the rated output current. This makes it a very cost-efficient choice for consumer and general-purpose applications that operate over wide temperature ranges.
The MAX631ACPA + is a highly integrated, high efficiency DC-DC switching regulator with synchronous rectification. The device features an internal 2.5 A/16 V power MOSFET, a current-mode PWM controller and some additional control circuitry. This allows for full control over the current-mode, switching frequency and voltage regulation. The device also has internal overcurrent and overtemperature protection, thermal shutdown and undervoltage lockout.
The MAX631ACPA + works by either, at the same time, turning on the internal power MOSFET and then turning it off or, alternatively, turning it off in series. This PWM mode operation is controlled by the voltage or current signal depending on the type of external PWM loop control. During current mode operation, the internal MOSFET is kept on until the current signal drops below a preset threshold. The device also employs synchronous rectification with a peak current of 2.5 A. This enables high efficiency over a wide input and output voltage range.
The MAX631ACPA + also features a post-regulator output voltage which is tolerant to input voltage fluctuations. This prevents abnormal output voltage levels when the input voltage is above or below the output voltage. This is particularly important when the input voltage is higher than the regulated output. Furthermore, the device is capable of very low input current and adjustable switching frequency. This is due to the low quiescent current and low duty cycling of the device, respectively.
The MAX631ACPA + can be used in a wide variety of DC-DC converter applications. These applications range from high power and large voltage DC-DC converters such as Switched Mode Power supplies, to low power and small voltage DC-DC converters such as AC adapters and notebook computer adapters. Due to its integrated power switch, high efficiency, thermal safeguards, low input current and adjustable switching frequencies, this device is an ideal choice for many different applications.
