MAX6759UTLD+T Application Field and Working PrincipleThe MAX6759UTLD+T is an Ultra-Low Dropout (ULDO) regulator from Maxim Integrated. This regulator is part of the PMIC - Supervisors integrated circuits family, and is designed for low-power, portable consumer and battery-powered systems. The MAX6759UTLD+T is a low dropout linear regulator that can provide up to 250ms of surge current. It also contains a precision voltage reference, oscillator, and a control logic, making it ideal for low-power applications that require minimal power consumption from the main supply.This MAX6759UTLD+T is available in an 8-pin SOIC package, making it suitable for virtually any size PCB. It features a wide 4.5V to 28V input voltage range, and can output either 3.3V, or any voltage between 0.8V and 5.0V with a maximum current of 250mA. It also features an adjustable current limit, reverse current protection, and thermal shutdown capabilities.This regulator is designed for applications such as embedded nodes, portable devices, wireless handset, battery charger, system basis chips, and point-of-load/point-of-use power supply. In order to achieve extreme low power consumption, the MAX6759UTLD+T uses a high-side FET to allow for ideal synchronous buck mode. It is also capable of supplying full output current at light load conditions.The working principle of the MAX6759UTLD+T is simple. It contains two voltage sensing levels: an upper threshold and a lower threshold. When the input voltage is higher than the upper threshold, the control logic will disable the output of the regulator, thus reducing the quiescent current draw. When the input voltage is between the upper and lower thresholds, the control logic will enable the output, thus allowing current to flow through the regulator.In order to ensure stability and accuracy, the MAX6759UTLD+T uses an on-chip precision voltage reference and oscillator. This allows it to accurately regulate its output voltage. The regulator also features a wide operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C and a low quiescent current of 1.15mA at a 3.3V output voltage.In summary, the MAX6759UTLD+T is a highly efficient and low power Linear Regulator.
