MAX6427ORUR+T

The MAX6427ORUR+T is a highly integrated, mixed-signal, power management IC (PMIC) that integrates battery management, power path control and system monitoring functions in a single chip, making it suitable for a wide range of mobile, portable and low-power battery-powered applications. It is designed to provide flexibility and ease-of-use for portable product designs, with a wide input voltage range, adjustable charge current, a user-programmable charger state machine, and accurate system protection. The battery management capability of the MAX6427ORUR+T covers a wide range of Li-Ion, Li-Polymer and other rechargeable battery types, providing a full suite of charging voltages, currents, and termination algorithms.

The basic operation of the MAX6427ORUR+T combines digital control of system power from an input power source with a charge mode implementation that can be optimized to meet customer specifications. To make it easier to design and implement, the MAX6427ORUR+T provides a flexible charge state machine that can be configured with over 10 adjustable parameters via either the I2C or SMBus. This allows designers to tailor the design to their particular battery characteristics and charging requirements. The MAX6427ORUR+T also includes a power path controller with ultra low quiescent current that provides a continuous current path from an input power source, such as a wall adapter or USB port, to the system\'s battery. When suitable input power is available, the MAX6427ORUR+T automatically switches the power path from the battery to the power source and begins charging the battery, as determined by the set parameters. The power path controller and charge controller are complemented by high-efficiency synchronous buck and boost controllers, as well as a post regulator for optimizing system load regulation.

Finally, the MAX6427ORUR+T integrates a comprehensive system monitoring and protection feature set with an integrated battery gas gauge. This monitoring system is designed to protect the battery and the system from over-charge, over-discharge and reverse-charge conditions, as well as over-current, temperature extremes and short-circuit events. The battery gas gauge combines a 16-bit A/D converter and a 14-bit Coulomb counter to provide an accurate measurement of the battery\'s charge and discharge cycles.
