The MAX6434UK+T is an advanced programmable single-cell lithium-ion (Li+)/lithium-ion polymer (Li-poly) battery manager offering features and flexibility never before available in a single-cell battery manager. This PMIC - Battery Management device integrates all of the monitoring, protection, and gas gauging functions required in a Li+/Li-poly battery-operated product, such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and notebook computers. It is designed to accurately monitor battery temperature, voltage, current, SoC, and capacity with minimal effect on battery current. With these functions and programmable FlexEnegry settings, the MAX6434UK+T provides a highly efficient battery-management solution.
The MAX6434UK+T is specialized for the management of Li+/Li-poly batteries and can be adapted to the specific needs of applications that require more control of the battery than the conventional linear chargers offer. It provides a high accuracy in the detection of battery voltages and currents, as well as protection circuitry. It also offers two adjustable charge profiles, allowing customers to program the current and voltage levels they want, in order to optimize their system design. This allows the application of a different charge strategy based on the operating temperature, battery type, and/or state of charge.

Working Principle of MAX6434UK+T
When the MAX6434UK+T is used as a Li+/Li-poly battery manager, it can be connected between the battery and LOAD by means of a low-Ohmic resistor. This allows the controller to accurately monitor the voltage, current, and temperature of the battery. The device can be programmed to determine the peak and termination voltage, the precharge current, and the battery overcurrent and overtemperature protection levels.
The MAX6434UK+T will continuously monitor the battery voltage, current, and temperature. The device will then initiate a charging cycle if the battery voltage is below the presetting threshold. During charging, the device will adjust the charging current in order to achieve the desired peak voltage. Once the desrted voltage has been reached, the controller will reduce the current and allow the battery to bleed off the stored energy. During the discharge, the chip will compare the battery voltage to the protection threshold and will activate protection in case of an overvoltage or overtemperature event.
The device also offers a manual reset feature. This allows the user to manually reset all the settings and ensure that the battery is discharged safely. In addition, the MAX6434UK+T also offers a fuel gauge function which provides precise SoC and capacity detection. This allows the controller to estimate the current state of charge and provide users with battery performance data.
