Modern microprocessors use a highly integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) which is composed of processor core, embedded non-volatile memory, high-speed integrated circuits to provide familiar off-the-shelf peripherals, and lastly, an external monitoring system that detects and controls the state of the processor. When the peripherals start up, the SoC applications can be enhanced by the use of a supervisor, such as the MAX6712TEXS+. It is a high-performance, field-programmable supervisory circuit that provides reliability during startup and low-voltage monitoring for microprocessor-based systems.

The working principle of the MAX6712TEXS+ is quite simple. It uses a voltage monitor to detect when the supply voltage drops below a set threshold.
