In order to ensure that these power supplies remain within this range and to provide reliable management of the power component, a supervisor component such as MAX6806US23+T is used to provide the necessary support. This device includes a watchdog timer, reset controller, and a power-on reset generator in a single package. The MAX6806US23+T is a high precision, low power supervisor solution for managing the power needs of both digital and analog circuits.The MAX6806US23+T application field is mainly in Personal computers (PCs), Consumer Electronics (CEs), Data storage, and Networking devices. It is designed for monitoring voltage, current and temperature for MCU, DSP and FPGA, boards, systems and server. The device integrates a watchdog timer, reset controller and power-on reset generator with a precision voltage reference and overcurrent protection, hence providing a complete system-level supervisor solution.The operating principle of the Max6806US23+T is to monitor the actual supply voltage against a pre-programmed value or threshold. If the actual value is lower then the programmed threshold, the device will trigger an active-low reset interface. This reset signal will reset the connected components, thus limiting the damage caused by the low supply voltages. The Max6806US23+T also monitors the actual temperature against a pre-programmed temperature threshold. If the actual temperature is higher than the programmed threshold, the device will trigger an alert interface. The alert signal will alert the user to the temperature abnormality, thus making the device safer. The Max6806US23+T also has a low power reset interface which will reset the connected components in case of an overcurrent event.The MAX6806US23+T components consist of five main blocks. The first block is the voltage controller which is used to control the output Voltage of the device and to keep it within a specified range. The second block is the temperature sensor which is used to monitor temperature and signal a temperature alert if it exceeds the programmed temperature threshold. The third block is the reset controller which is used to issue active-low reset signal when the supply voltage falls below the pre-programmed threshold. The fourth block is the watchdog timer which is used to issue reset signal when a specified time-out period has elapsed without receiving a periodic pulse. The fifth block is the overcurrent protection block which is used to issue a reset signal when it detects an overcurrent event.The MAX6806US23+T is a very versatile monitoring IC that provides an accurate and reliable way to monitor supply voltages and temperatures.
