MAX6819UT+T is a cost-effective, ideal in-system programmable supervisor with multiple functions that help enhance user-level platform-level system design, increase system performance and improve system reliability. It is specially designed for applications that must provide reliable, low-power and connected solutions. This application note will discuss MAX6819UT+T\'s application field and working principle. MAX6819UT+T belongs to the supervisory circuits, which is used to monitor the circuit’s power supply voltage and to provide reset signals when the voltage falls below preset levels. It is composed of a voltage supervisor, a nonvolatile latch and an LED status indicator. It monitors power supply voltages ranging from 0.9V to 3.6V and detects power-on reset (POR), supply voltage dropouts and overtemperature faults. In addition, it features a shutdown output, a low runtime supply current of 6μA and a window comparator providing two programmable under-voltage thresholds. The supervisor consists of three major blocks: a voltage reference, voltage monitoring input, and reset (or output) logic. The voltage reference sources a reference voltage and continuously monitors the supply voltage. When the supply voltage drops below the desired threshold, the supervisor will reset the processor monitor. The reset logic is responsible for controlling the reset, allowing the processor to exit the reset state after the supply voltage rises back to a safe level, and reinitiate the reset when the voltage drops back. The MAX6819UT+T supervisor monitors the voltage with a built-in window comparator, which is programmable with two under-voltage (UV) thresholds, allowing the user to configure outputs for multiple supply rails. In addition, MAX6819UT+T includes an additional input/output (I/O) pin that allows setting of a “shutdown” bit. This bit can be used to disable the device from providing correct reset signal. The shutdown bit is logically ANDed with the reset signal so if the I/O pin is low the reset signal will be disabled and the device will not respond to POR or UV conditions. The MAX6819UT+T supervisor also features an LED status indicator to provide visual indication of the device’s operating status. The LED will light up when the device is operating normally. This LED can be disabled with a dedicated pin as well. MAX6819UT+T is an ideal solution for a variety of applications such as handheld, desktop and server systems; embedded systems; personal electronic devices; or battery-backed memory and processor systems.
