The MAX6820UT+T is a PMIC Supervisor device, specifically designed to provide reset, brown-out, and supply monitoring of computer systems, portable electronic equipment and communication systems. This device integrates a watchdog, reset timer and brown-out detect circuit into a single 16-pin package. It draws minimal supply current, yet delivers reliable operation with fast response time. Working Principle
The MAX6820UT+T acts as a hard reset controller, providing watchdog, reset timer and brown-out detect functions. Its watchdog function monitors system activity to detect an anomaly, and will generate a reset pulse when it does. This reset pulse can be used to reset the host system. The reset timer also generates a reset pulse if the host system becomes unresponsive, while the brown-out detect circuit monitors the supply voltage and generates a reset pulse if it drops below a certain threshold. The device also features an active-low enable input that can be used to shut down the host system in the event of a fault condition.
In order to ensure proper operation, the device should be configured with the correct settings for the host system’s conditions. This includes setting the reset pull-ups for a given system, establishing an appropriate reset threshold, setting an appropriate reset timeout value and enabling or disabling the watchdog. With the settings in place, the device can constantly monitor the system and detect any problems before they escalate.
To ensure power supplies are delivering the correct voltage, the MAX6820UT+T can monitor up to two power supplies. These supplies can be configured as either true power supplies or enable signals, providing more flexibility to the system. The device also has a wide range of output voltages, from 6V to 24V, making it suitable for a variety of power supplies.
In addition, the device features an open-drain reset output and an open-drain enable output, allowing it to be easily integrated into system architectures.
