The MAX6834FXRD3+ is a voltage supervisor integrated circuit designed for portable systems requiring accurate and highly efficient voltage and temperature monitoring. This integrated circuit is part of a family of robust and reliable ICs that are designed for mobile computing, automotive, and industrial applications. Its low quiescent current and wide operating temperature range make it the ideal choice for applications that require accurate voltage monitoring over the entire operating temperature range.

The MAX6834FXRD3+ monitors two independent voltage supplies, produces a reset signal when either supply falls below an internal threshold, and integrates two selectable threshold temperature sensors. The reset and temperature signals are each available as active-low outputs ( Reset and Temp) and can be used to signal a processor to initiate a safe shut-down procedure in the event of a supply or temperature signal fault or failure. Moreover, it can be used to assert an active processor reset signal for proper initialization of a system following a power-up or reset event.

The MAX6834FXRD3+ features two supply voltage thresholds. The first is the primary active-low reset threshold and is typically used to warn the processor when the supply voltage falls below the safe operating level. The second is the ganged reset threshold and when used together with the active-low reset threshold, the MAX6834FXRD3+ can provide a non-active (high) reset when the supply voltage is below the ganged reset threshold. This two-threshold configuration enables improved accuracy and more consistent reset triggering.

The MAX6834FXRD3+ also features two selectable temperature thresholds. The active-low temperature threshold is typically used to warn the processor when the temperature exceeds the safe operating range, while the ganged temperature threshold is used to provide a non-active (high) temperature signal when the temperature exceeds the ganged temperature threshold. This two-threshold configuration allows a system to be designed such that a processor reset is triggered when the temperature crosses either threshold.

The MAX6834FXRD3+ has a power-up reset functionality. When a power-up or reset is initiated, either by a reset signal on the RES# pin or a power supply voltage ramping above the active-low reset threshold, the MAX6834FXRD3+ will reset an integrated processor. This eliminates the need for external logic to set the processor at the required reset level. The MAX6834FXRD3+ has an internal oscillator circuit with selectable frequency of 2.5 KHz, 500 Hz, 250 Hz and 125 Hz. The oscillation frequency can be adjusted via a single pin to optimize the power consumption of the system.

In addition to voltage and temperature monitoring, the MAX6834FXRD3+ includes two other features. It includes two external high-side current-sensing pins, which can be used to detect current overload conditions in a system. The MAX6834FXRD3+ also provides an internal isolation circuit which ensures isolation between the RESET# pin and the other circuits on the IC. This isolation circuit helps protect against voltage surges, over-voltages and other electromagnetic events.
