The MAX6887PETE+ is a robust single-channel supervisor and reset IC specially designed for reset operation in microcontrollers, system-on-chip (SoC) and application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) applications. It features low leakage current, extended temperature range (from -55° C to +125° C) and low power consumption. This makes it an ideal choice for monitoring voltage and resetting an ASIC or SoC when different zones, in order to protect the system from parasitic oscillations, get into a low-voltage condition.

Application Fields

The MAX6887PETE+ is versatile and is well-suited to many different application fields. In automotive industries, it can be used to monitor bus voltages in powertrains, fuel cells, engine control and battery management systems, body control modules and steering systems. It can also be used in industrial applications, such as UPS systems, industrial motor control and monitoring, solar energy storage and control systems and embedded systems. Working Principle

The whole working principle of the MAX6887PETE+ relies on three main signals. The two power supply pins are the input-voltage supply voltage (VIN), which is used to monitor the power status of the system and the on-chip standby supply voltage (VSTBY) which is used to power the internal circuit of the device. A reset signal (RESET) is used to initiate the reset of the ASIC or SoC when the VIN pin drops below the trigger threshold (TYP) of 3.23 V. When the voltage level at VIN is above that threshold the reset pin is pulled to a low-logic state, thus keeping the device in an active and operating state. However, when voltage at VIN drops below that threshold, the RESET pin is pulled to a high-logic state, thus initiating a system reset.

The MAX6887PETE+ is also capable of early warning, meaning that when the voltage at VIN is close to the low-trip point of the TYP, the RESET pin is pulled to a low-logic state and the silicon does not wait for the voltage to reach the exact low-trip point before activating the reset. Instead, it triggers the reset at a slightly higher voltage. This is a useful feature as it gives designers flexibility should they want to add in a conditional reset that may be needed for applications that require extra robustness.

The MAX6887PETE+ has an active-low output enable pin (OE) which, when left open, enables the RESET pin to be asserted, however when set to a low-logic state, the RESET pin will be held in a low-logic state and the device will not reset. This pin allows the device to be used in applications that do not require system reset, but still require voltage monitoring.

The MAX6887PETE+ also has a special feature known as adaptive temperature compensation, which monitors the local environmental temperature to ensure the reset threshold remains unaffected by any changes in the temperature of the surrounding environment. This helps to protect the system from being reset by false signals caused by external temperature fluctuations.

Overall, the MAX6887PETE+ is a versatile device widely used to monitor voltage and reset ASICs and SoCs when different zones get into a low-voltage condition.
