The Maxim Integrated MAX696CPE+ is a low-power and low-voltage PMIC supervisor IC with many features, making it ideal for embedded system applications. Working Principle

The MAX696CPE+ is a single-chip solution for power sequencing, over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, and reset control. It includes an innovative, fail-safe, dedicated reset controller and timer to provide reset signals to the system. The reset controller and timer monitor the system and issue reset signals once the system fails to respond within a predetermined period. This ensures that the system is never caught in a non-operational state.

The MAX696CPE+ also features a sophisticated over-voltage protection circuit to monitor input voltages for over-voltage events. The device can be configured for latching or non-latching, with the option of manual reset or system reset. Over-temperature protection is provided via an integrated temperature sensor, which monitors system temperature and issues a reset signal if the temperature exceeds the set trip point.

The MAX696CPE+ is designed to automatically switch on/off the external voltage, current, and temperature sensors as required to maintain low power consumption. The external voltage, current, and temperature sensors are automatically enabled and disabled when their values exceed or fall below their respective thresholds, allowing the device to make no unnecessary power-up/down cycles.
