A typical feature set includes an ultra-low power reset, adjustable watchdog timeout, one or two general-purpose inputs, transistor or FET reset output, active-low reset output, and selectable reset assertion thresholds.The MAX698CWE+ IC family provides a wide variety of reset solutions with an adjustable watchdog timer, a voltage monitor that provides a power-good signal, a low-power reset, and one or two general-purpose inputs to monitor other external logic signals. The IC also provides programmable reset-assertion thresholds and reset active-low outputs at one or two external connections for convenience. All features are accessible by a serial peripheral interface (SPI) or I2C bus.The MAX698CWE+ family of Supervisory Circuits utilizes a variety of techniques to increase reliability, including a low power reset, temperature sensor, watchdog timer, programmable reset-assertion threshold, and two external general-purpose inputs. This simple and cost-effective IC family enables designers to use one device instead of several. Additionally, all features can be configured without discrete components, which greatly reduces board space requirements and eliminates debugging time.The low-power reset of the MAX698CWE+ monitors the power-supply voltage and triggers a reset when the reset level is exceeded. The MAX698CWE+ uses an on-chip temperature sensor to protect the device in extreme thermal conditions by monitoring junction temperature. The device can also reset when the switch point is exceeded, keeping system operations efficient.The watchdog timer of the MAX698CWE+ can be set to time-out watchdog delays from 10ms all the way to 1 hour. The active-low reset output provides a signal when a reset has been triggered, allowing the system to respond quickly when the pre-set conditions are met.
