Maxim Integrated MAX711ESE+ is an integrated switch-mode DC-DC regulator that combines an internal power MOSFET, inductor, and voltage control solutions, which can provide up to 1A of continuous output current for demanding applications. It operates from a 3V to 16V input voltage range and supports output voltages from 1.2V to 5V. The device enables efficient, adjustable and synchronized step-down power conversion, with a wide range of operating frequencies.

Typical Applications:

The MAX711ESE+ is an ideal solution for a wide range of DC-DC applications including point-of-load, post-regulators and secondary-sideregulation systems. It can be used in communication and data acquisition system, cellular telephones and modems, digital audio players, instrumentation and industrial control.

Functional Description:

The MAX711ESE+ is a synchronous buck regulator that provides synchronous rectifying efficiency at the output of a step-down voltage converter. It uses wide input voltage range and constant-frequency current-mode control to optimize efficiency and simplify the design of magnetic and EMI filters. The device integrates a low-RDS(on) power MOSFET for greater efficiency, improved thermal management and fast transient response.A wide operating range of switching frequency between 200kHz to 2MHz makes MAX711ESE+ suitable for wide-range of applications. The incorporation of Frequency Synchronization enables parts to be easily synchronized with an external clock and/or with multiple devices in a power-system. Additionally,MAX711ESE+ can be operatedï¼in either forced PWM or PFM mode too.

Block diagram:

The MAX711ESE+ includes power MOSFET, voltage regulator, inductor, and post-regulator circuit blocks as shown in the figure below. The internal voltage regulator senses the output voltage and provides feedback signal to the voltage control loop. The power MOSFET switches current in and out of the inductor to increase or decrease the output voltage to match the desired value. The post-regulator circuit maintains an output voltage that is slightly above the desired voltage level under most operating conditions.
