The MAX7315ATE+ is an interface-I/O expander that provides eight digital IO ports for communication, control and processing between microcontrollers. It’s a reliable, low-power device that offers robust protection against ESD and is highly integrated into a space-saving 8-pin package. This versatile product also has an operating temperature range of - 40 to + 85 degrees Celsius and can be supplied with 2.7V to 5.5V power. In addition, it is RoHS compliant and requires no external components.

The main application field of the MAX7315ATE+ is in Industrial Automation, Telecommunications, Automotive, Networking and other applications where the external control and data acquisition is required. It can be used to detect analog signals or digital input signals from sensors, transducers, switches, buttons, and other digital devices. It is also used to control external devices such as LEDs, relays, fans, motors, and other digital devices. It can be connected to both 3-wire and 4-wire interfaces, and it also has an integrated wake-on-pin feature to detect low-power devices for power savings.

The MAX7315ATE+ working principle is based on the concept of bus protocol, which is mainly divided into three levels of control. First, its integrated Clock and Data (CLK/DAT) interface allows the master device to initiate a transfer transaction. The CLK/DAT interface includes a 2-wire serial input and output interface, as well as a 4-wire bus interface. The 2-wire serial data exchange protocol is used to exchange data in 1, 4, 8 and 16-bit formats, while the 4-wire bus protocol is used for control operations, such as, read and write operations and control of events. Second, the integrated registers are managed with the help of an internal register-mapped memory, which stores the data received from the master devices. The internal register-mapped memory is used to store information such as configuration parameters, registers and signal settings. In addition, an internal counter is used to count the amount of elapsed time in each transfer transaction and to know when to start or terminate a specific operation. Lastly, the MAX7315ATE+ works by applying different signal-processing techniques, such as amplitude modulation/demodulation, pulse-width modulation/demodulation, pulse-code modulation/demodulation, pulse-train pulse-width modulation/demodulation, pulse-width modulation/demodulation with hysteresis, and pulse-width modulation/demodulation with frequency modulation. All of these techniques are used to facilitate the data transfer between the master and the slave devices.

The MAX7315ATE+ is an ideal solution for a wide range of applications requiring an industrial and cost-effective I/O expander.
