The MAX7319AEE+T (hereafter abbreviated to MAX7319) is an interface - I/O expanders which is used to control circuit designs requiring a wide range of input/output (I/O) functions and TTL logic levels. It is particularly useful in designs where multiple power supplies, low power consumption, and long battery life are key factors. The device is comprised of two separate parts, the [external] TTL interface bus, and the I/O expander IC. The TTL interface bus is composed of two parts, the clock line and the data line. The MAX7319 receives input on both lines and decodes the input into a series of digital signals which are used to control the output of the I/O expander IC.
Depending on the configuration of the MAX7319, up to eight individual, optically isolated I/O pins can be controlled. This makes it possible to independently control a variety of I/O pins, such as a variety of devices, without requiring a dedicated pin for each one. Furthermore, the I/O expander IC supports an I2C or SPI interface. This enables the user to communicate with the IC over these interface, thereby allowing for easy programming and change of settings.
