Working Principle
The MAX7349AE + is a register-mapped device that comprises a low dropout linear regulator, a power-supply supervisor (PSS), a power-good comparator, and various fault-control constants tied to one or more internal registers that are accessed via a two-wire serial interface.
The regulator portion is composed of a P-channel pass element, an internal voltage reference, a current limit configuration, and other functions. It regulator output voltage can be programmed through a two-wire serial interface. It has an 8101% duty cycle in the dropout region and can offer a very low minimum dropout voltage (0.1V) when operating in the dropout region. This internal regulator can implement power-on sequencing and power-off sequencing. It can also provide active voltage switching from its current output voltage setting to a new target voltage setting.
The power-supply supervisor portion monitors the output voltage and provides a power-good flag if the output voltage is within allowable limits. If an over-current, short-circuit, or over-temperature fault is detected, the MAX7349AE + can take action (such as disabling the output) according to user-programmed fault-control settings.
The MAX7349AE + provides over-voltage monitoring and fault-control capability. The OVLO feature enables the device to detect an over-voltage condition on the output and respond with a fault-response action. The fault-response action can be one of two pre-programmed fault-control settings. These settings are programmed internally in the device.
The MAX7349AE + is designed to provide its advantages at very low quiescent current and shutdown current. It has current limit protection to protect the device against over-current conditions.
