The MAX735EPA+ is a low-cost, low-power, PB-free, CMOS, DC-DC switching regulator that provides up to 500mA output current. This easy-to-use integrated regulator converts unregulated input voltages to fixed regulated voltages as low as 1.8V. It provides high efficiency, low RDS(on), low quiescent current and excellent line and load regulation.The MAX735EPA+ operates from input voltages ranging from 2.9V to 11.5V and provides adjustable output voltages from 1.8V to the input voltage. This makes it ideal for commercial and industrial applications. It also features low noise operation, fast transient response, programmable soft-start, low-Noise PWM control, and precision current-limit protection.The MAX735EPA+ operates in step-down, step-up, and inverting configurations with simple external components. It includes a 1A, internal switch and a versatile Shutdown pin that can be used to inhibit the device or send a logic level signal. The MAX735EPA+ has a thermally compensated frequency-compensation circuit to ensure stable operation over a wide ambient temperature range (−40°C to +85°C).The operating principle of the MAX735EPA+ is based on the hysteretic control technique, which uses a variable frequency clock as the control source. This results in a constant Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) frequency that varies depending on the output voltage. The PWM signal is generated by comparing the output voltage on the feedback pin and the actual output voltage on the COMP pin. When the output is below the reference voltage, the internal switch is turned on for a period of time that proportionally increases the output voltage. The current-limit circuit provides protection against out-of-limit conditions.The MAX735EPA+ is suitable for a wide variety of applications, including cellular phones, battery-operated equipment, laptop computers, automotive systems and home appliances.
