It operates in two modes: constant frequency and reduced frequency. In the constant frequency mode the switching frequency is fixed at 1.5MHz and and ranges from 1 MHz to 2MHz in reduced frequency mode--ultimately providing higher efficiency and extended battery life.The device contains an internal voltage regulator for powering the internal circuitry, allowing it to be used with input voltages higher than the target output voltage. With an internal low-side NPN switch, the compact and lightweight 8-pin solution is able to achieve a maximum switching frequency of 2MHz, achieving a superior transient response down to100mA. Furthermore, a built-in 100 mV overvoltage protection provides enhanced safety when operating with misadjusted feedback resistor divider networks.The MAX738ACPA also contains optional features like output voltage tracking, which allows the output voltage to follow certain patterns that the user defines; and a power-saving standby mode which is triggered by one of three alternate methods; either using a user-defined voltage level, enabling a dedicated pin input, or by monitoring the output of an alternate regulator.The wide input voltage range, high efficiency and superior output accuracy, coupled with its small footprint and minimised power dissipation, makes the MAX738ACPA one of the top choices for mobile and industrial applications.
