The MAX705CPA+ is a programmable voltage supervisor used in a variety of applications. It is a low-power, voltage-buffered supervisory circuit that monitors several system power-supply rails. The MAX705CPA+ alert is provided when operated from a wide supply voltage range, from 2.0V to 5.5V single-supply operation. The MAX705CPA+ has low quiescent current (2.8μA typical), making it an ideal choice for battery-powered systems. It supports a wide temperature range of −40°C to +85°C.The MAX705CPA+ provides maximum flexibility when used as a soft power-on reset circuit. It can be configured to generate an active-high reset pulse by applying an external capacitor from the RESET/PFO pin to ground. It also serves as a power-fail circuit by providing an active-low reset pulse when VCC falls below the factory-programmed reset threshold.The MAX705CPA+ has a state-of-the-art detection circuit used to differentiate between power-fail and power-good conditions. It utilizes an auto source/sink current-endurance architecture that can support >10mA of sink current, allowing the IC to drive large external capacitors with low-level transistors.The ED/PG and RESET/PFO pins of the MAX705CPA+ can be used as general-purpose I/O. The ED/PG pin is used to enable or disable the PFO and Latch-off signals. This pin can be used in conjunction with a GPIO controller to enable/disable external peripherals, implement inrush-current limit when charging external capacitors, or providing a active-low reset pulse by programming the RESET/PFO pin pull-up resistor and Release-time register.The MAX705CPA+ is configured with a combination of DIP switches, on-chip registers, and external components such as resistors, capacitors, and transistors. The DIP switch settings are the user\'s primary interface to the MAX705CPA+ and must be set up prior to operation. The VDDQ and VSEN registers allow the user to program the detection voltage thresholds to set up thresholds that decrease linearly with temperature to maintain the reset-assert threshold over the device’s entire operating temperature range. The RESET/PFO pin can also be buffered with an externally connected amplifier if the user desires a longer reset pulse.The MAX705CPA\'\'s detection circuit operates with a wide range of input voltages and is designed to generate a reset signal at a threshold that is independent of temperature and supply voltage variations. The detection circuit utilizes CMOS transistors and an internal voltage reference to generate an independent voltage step. This voltage step is compared against the VSEN voltage to determine whether a reset should be asserted. The MAX705CPA+ also has a power-good output signal (PG) which is active low and rises with a time delay up to 200ms after the supply voltage value is greater than the reset-assert threshold.In summary, the MAX705CPA+ is an ideal solution for a variety of applications requiring an accurate, low-power, and cost-effective voltage supervisor. It is a very versatile device that can be configured to provide a wide variety of features, such as soft power-on reset, power-fail detection, reset enable and disable, and general-purpose I/O control.
