The MAX7401ESA+ is a dual-channel differential line transceiver from Maxim Integrated, available in 8-pin TDFN packages. This low-voltage differential line transceiver is designed with TTL-compatible inputs and differential outputs. It’s ideal for interfacing between two systems that operate at different voltages and/or different logic levels.
Application Field
The MAX7401ESA+ is an ideal choice for use in data communication and telecommunications applications, such as twisted-pair systems, fibre optical systems, balanced line systems, and unbalanced line systems. It is ideal for bridging between LVDS, RS-485 and Bluetooth. It can be used to convert a variety of digital signals, including TTL, ECL, and CML, into differential line-level signals.
The MAX7401ESA+ can also be used to perform bit-level sensing and receiving functions. It can be used to perform differential signaling between two points using a single ended signal. The MAX7401ESA+ can also be used to isolate the source from the load, reducing the system noise level.
Working Principle
The MAX7401ESA+ differential line transceiver features two channels, each comprising of one input and one output. The differential outputs are compatible with LVDS (low voltage differential signaling), RS-485 and Bluetooth. The inputs and outputs are TTL- compatible.
When the MAX7401ESA+ is in the idle condition, both inputs are kept low and the outputs are in the high-impedance mode. When the input is high, the differential output voltage is determined by the voltage across the two inputs. This provides a low-voltage conversion. When the input is low, the output is in the disabled mode, which prevents the output from getting pulled high due to stray current or voltage.
The MAX7401ESA+ also has a sleep mode, which reduces power consumption. When in this mode, the outputs are disabled and the input signals, if present, will not affect the outputs. This is useful in battery-operated systems, where power consumption must be kept to a minimum.
The MAX7401ESA+ also features short-circuit protection, which prevents the outputs from over-voltage or over-current conditions. The MAX7401ESA+ also features a thermal shutdown circuit, which shuts down the device when the temperature exceeds a certain threshold. The device can be reset easily by re-applying the power supply.
