The principle of operation of the MAX765CSA+ is based on the synchronous switching of two transistors at fixed frequency (typically between 200kHz and 2MHz). When the power switch is turned on, the input current (which is typically a pulse) is pulled from the input supply and passes through the input capacitor and an inductor. During this period, the current flowing through the inductor increases and a magnetic field is established in the core of the inductor that stores the energy. When the power switch is turned off, the magnetic field collapses and the stored energy is released in the form of a voltage spike. This voltage spike is channeled to an output capacitor and controlled through a feedback network connected to the output terminal. The energy stored in the output capacitor is used to supply the load current. This process repeats itself with each input pulse and the output voltage is regulated.Benefits:
