Working Principle
The MAX765EPA+ uses the buck (step-down) switching regulator topology, which is well-suited for high efficiency, low ripple, and fast transient response. The regulator converts input voltages from 2.5V to 14V to an adjustable output voltage of up to 6V. The regulator is based on an internally compensated high-speed power switch, low-dropout reference, and soft-start circuit. The input voltage is applied to the non-inverting input of the comparator, and this voltage is compared to a reference voltage from the internal low-dropout reference. Depending on the comparison, the comparator will either turn off or turn on the power switch. This power switch is a high-speed MOSFET. When it is on, the switch supplies current to the output load and stores energy in the inductor. When the power switch is off, the stored energy is released at the output and is used to maintain the output voltage.
The MAX765EPA+ uses PWM feedback operation to control the inductor current. The output voltage is sensed and compared to a reference voltage. Depending on the comparison the PWM controller will either turn on or turn off the power switch. The feedback voltage is adjustable, so the output voltage can be set. The feedback voltage is set by using the external Feedback Voltage Adjust pin.
