Linear Comparators are essential components in automated systems where the ability to rapidly compare electrical signals with a reference is necessary. MAX908CPD+is one of the most popular linear comparators on the market, with its wide application field and unique working principle.

MAX908CPD+ is a single-supply, low-power, high-speed CMOS comparator that can operate over a single 3.3V to 5.5V supply voltage. With a maximum current drain of only 2.6mA and an ultra-fast propagation delay of 3.2ns, it is ideal for high-speed, low-power applications. It also includes an open-drain output with a 25mA sinking capability. The open-drain output simplifies system design by eliminating the need for external pullup resistors to drive other circuits.

MAX908CPD+ is designed to compare two external inputs and determine which one has the higher voltage. The two comparator inputs are labeled "In+" and "In-", and the output is active-low (denoted by the inv in the drawing). When the voltage of the input signal on In+ is greater than that of the input signal on In-, the output will be pulled to a low logic level. In the reverse scenario, when the voltage on In- is greater than that of In+, the output will be pulled to a high logic level. This can also be thought of as inverting the output signal if the In+ signal is greater than the In- signal.

MAX908CPD+ also incorporates a comparator latch-off feature where the output is held low regardless of the inputs. This is useful for detecting over-voltage or other fault conditions. Additionally, the latch-off feature can be disabled by applying a logic high to the enable pin if desired. By applying a logic low to the enable pin, the circuit will be tri-stated, effectively turning off all power consumption and logic associated with the comparator.

MAX908CPD+ is designed to operate over a wide temperature range and features a ±5mV of input offset voltage at 25°C, hysteresis (typical 0.6mV) and extremely low power consumption. The input common-mode range encompasses the entire power supply voltage range, and the device is fully specified for temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C.

The MAX908CPD+ is a powerful yet simple linear comparator that is designed specifically for lower power and high-speed applications.
