Linear comparators are often used to create converters, amplifiers and other circuits where a precise level of voltage or current must be achieved and maintained. The MAX9144EUD+ is a Linear-Comparator IC from Maxim, also labeled Elegant microdesign. The MAX9614EUD+ is powered by a 0.9V to 20V source and includes an integrated push-pull output stage. It also features an adaptive dynamic comparison range between 20 and 256mV.

The working principle of the MAX9144EUD+ is straightforward: it compares two voltage levels or current sources and provides a high output if the input voltage or current is higher than the reference voltage or current, and a low output if the input voltage or current is lower than the reference voltage or current. The main components of the MAX9144EUD+ circuit are two pins - INH (inhibit) and INL (invert) - that drive the high and low outputs, respectively. The INH pin is connected to the reference voltage or current, and the INL pin is connected to the input voltage or current.
When an input voltage is applied to the INL pin of the MAX9144EUD+, the smart-level detection circuit will immediately compare the two voltages and depending on the result, it will either turn off or turn on the internal comparator circuit. If the INL voltage is higher than the INH voltage, the output of the internal comparator will be driven high (logic 1) and the low (logic 0) output is forced to the ground. On the other hand, if the INL voltage is lower than the INH voltage, the output of the internal comparator will be driven low (logic 0) and the high (logic 1) output is forced to the ground.
The MAX9144EUD+ also includes an adaptive dynamic comparison range between 20 and 256mV. This allows for greater flexibility and accuracy when comparing two signals with different levels and/or frequencies.
