The MAX921CUA+T is a dual-channel comparator that has an open drain output and low power drain. It also has good comparison characteristics and high impedance inputs.
The MAX921CUA+T application field usually comprises of use in applications that require undervoltage monitoring, blinking LED control, voltage level sensing, watchdogTimer, battery monitoring, and real-time clock circuits.
The working principle of the MAX921CUA+T is that it is configured to be used in one of three modes; 0V or open drain output, inverted output, or cascaded input. In the 0V or open drain output mode, the open drain output of MAX921CUA+T is pulled to 0V when the voltage of one of the inputs exceed the voltage of another input. In the inverted output mode, the opposite is true with the output of the device being pulled to VDD when the voltage of one of the inputs exceed the voltage of another input. In the cascaded input mode, the output of the device is pulled to 0V when the voltage of one input is greater than the voltage of both of the inputs at the same time.
The MAX921CUA+T is a low power drain device due to its shutdown feature which allows for the device to be shut down when it is not in use. This shut down mode is enabled by the S/D pin which when pulled to a HIGH voltage will enable the device to shut down. The device also features a Low Power Performance(LPP) mode which is used to reduce the power drain of the device while keeping its accuracy.
The MAX921CUA+T also features good comparison characteristics which allows for the device to accurately detect small differences in voltage levels. This is a feature that is important in applications that require the sensing of small changes in voltage levels.
