Applications

Max is an ideal choice for high-speed serial communication applications. It can be used for serial point-to-point links operating at up to 10.3 Gb/s, optical links to transmit multiple channels of data, over long distances, and backplanes where multi-gigabit data needs to be transported between components.In a serial point-to-point link, the MAX provides a complete solution with its integrated transmitters, receivers, and channel equalizers. The integrated signal conditioning helps to reduce system complexity and costs by eliminating peripheral components such as amplifiers and discrete equalizers.MAX is also well suited for optical communication links. It can be used for transmission at up to 10.3 Gb/s over fiber cables with single-channel fiber optics or up to five channels of data at different data rates over Electrical Interface Network (EIN) MultiMode Fiber Optic cables.When used in a backplane application, MAX can be leveraged to obtain multi-gigabit data transmission between boards in a system. This can be achieved through a type-C connector which supports up to four channels of 5.3 Gb/s and six channels of 2.5 Gb/s.

Protocol Support

MAX supports several different communication protocols, making it versatile and suitable for a variety of applications. These protocols include the Serial Interface for longer-distance communications, Ethernet for protocol conversion, 10/100/1000 Mbps Base-T Ethernet for data transfer over Ethernet networks, and LVDS for high-speed control-plane applications.The MAX SERDES also supports several different video/audio standards, including, SD/HD/3G-SDI for transmission of uncompressed digital video data strand over single coaxial cables. It also supports DVI for distribution of digital video signals, HDMI for distribution of digital audio/video signals, and DisplayPort for connecting video sources to display devices such as monitors, projectors, and televisions.

Working Principle

The MAX transceiver is a high-speed data communication device that can convert digital signals from a source into an analog signal, transmit it over long distances, and convert it back into a digital signal on its other side. The integrated SERDES includes transmitters and receivers optimized to work together to ensure uninterrupted transmission of digital data over long distances.On the transmitting side, the MAX SERDES encodes and serializes the data on its source side into a 10-bit word format. The data is then transmitted over the channel via the integrated transmitter, which amplifies the data and sends it out as an analog signal.On the receiving side, the MAX SERDES decodes and deserializes the received data, which is then passed to the destination.
