Working Principle

The MAX942AUA+T works on the concept of differential voltage detection, where two voltage inputs are compared to each other and the output indicate their relative magnitudes. Specifically, the family offers two comparators (A and B) whose outputs can be independently configured as either open-collector or complementary outputs for either voltage comparison and hysteresis or for threshold detection.

The operation of the chip is based on the process of comparing the differential voltages applied to the +IN and -IN pins. The A and B comparators, set to use hysteresis control, have configurable voltage thresholds to not just detect, but also control specific thresholds. In addition, each of the two comparators has a corresponding VL input pin to create positive, overall, or negative hysteresis.

The frequency of operation is set by adjusting the VL connections and the level of the thresholds. The family\'s response time can be set up to 1μs. This amazing agility allows the chip to detect fast changing conditions and then change the output accordingly, yielding intuitive control.
