The MB8UT RF Accessories is a high performance, broadband, multi-port RF switch. This device supports a wide range of applications such as Digital Communication, National Instruments, Metrology, Satellite, and Broadcast Industries, and it is most commonly used for multiport switching, switching of multiple antennas, signal routing, and synthesis of complex waveforms. The MB8UT utilizes a type of FET multiplexer switch to implement the multiple ports, with the signal being managed by the high frequency switching transistor. The transistor switch normally has four terminals; two of them are the source and drain electrodes, the other two are called the gate and the substrate. The substrate is the gate’s grounding plate and the drain is the output signal terminal. The switching performance of the FET depends on the gate/drain voltage and the value of the RF signal being processed.
The MB8UT’s working principle involves supplying a constant gate voltage to the transistor switch. This voltage is adjusted so that the transistor would be in a stable switching condition. The input signals are then routed through a switch matrix, thus transferring the information fromSource --> Destination.The signals passing through the multiplexer are also blocked by multiple circuits that protect the system from damage due to thermal runaway.
The MB8UT is designed to operate at frequencies of up to 12 GHz. It has an isolation of 33 dB @ 1 GHz and a port-to-port isolation of 30 dB. The insertion loss is low, reaching only 0.2 dB at 1 GHz. The active termination can be used for switching high power levels and can dissipate up to 50 Watts of DC power. It is also built-in a temperature compensation system to minimize the drift of the mechanical parts, increasing reliability and long-term performance.
