MBRB7H45HE3/81

The MBRB7H45HE3/81 is a single high-voltage rectifier diode with very important applications. Specifications

The device comes in a standard TO-263AA package, with dimensions of 10mm x 3mm x 2mm. The rated forward voltage drop lies between 450V and 500V, and the reverse leakage current is low. The operating temperature range is -50°C to 82°C and the storage temperature is -65°C to 150°C. The MBRB7H45HE3/81 can be used up to a maximum rated current of 1.5A in DC or peak pulse current of 8.3A (see Figure 1). The diode has an impressive maximum surge power rating of 83W and it is UL approved.

Construction and Working Principle

The MBRB7H45HE3/81 is a statically controlled, high voltage rectifier diode, which is capable of handling peak reverse voltages of up to 500V. It has dual leaded, oval molded plastic body, with a simplified construction (see Figure 2). The diode consists of three components, namely the anode, cathode and gate. The anode and cathode are connected to the lead frame and the gate is insulated from the frame. The gate is connected to the anode with a thin, insulating film layer. This layer acts as a junction between the anode and gate and it allows the diode to control the current flow. When a voltage is applied, the gate is positively charged and it causes a breakdown of the insulating layer. This breakdown results in the flow of current through the device, and it is controlled by the current flowing through the gate. This breakdown and current flow are then repeated every time a voltage is applied across the anode and cathode terminals.
