MC145010EGR2 is a 24-bit quadrupole sensing interface from Pericom Semiconductor, which enables analog to digital conversion of rotation and localization information from external rotatory encoders. The device has an integrated analog-to-digital converter, can support a wide range of input frequencies and offers a built-in protection against erroneous signals.The device has an excellent robustness to third-party interference, and its maximum power consumption is as low as 1.2 Watt. The chip supports a wide range of signals from detectors and sensors, and can operate from -40°C to +85°C. The MC145010EGR2 offers a high-resolution 24-bit parallel output, allowing the capture of rotational position and incremental motion of four quadrature hall-effect encoders or current-loop controllers. The design has an optimized sensitivity and the resolution can be set to 8, 16 or 24-bit. An onboard PWM controller allows stroboscopic line-up and non-invasive testing. The integration of the AD converter, the on-chip protection against EMI/RFI, the efficient voltage regulator and the integrated ESD protection and connector checking allow the MC145010EGR2 device to be used for medium to large sensing applications such as vibration, torque, and force measurement systems, as well as for automotive applications, without the need for an external analog-to-digital converter. The device can be used in a variety of motor control applications, providing a cost-effective way of sensing rotational position and incremental motion in motor control systems. The device takes power from the motor power rail, enabling easier integration and setup. It can be used to replace traditional encoders and to provide closed-loop motor control. The MC145010EGR2 is built with an automatic gain, ranging from 18 to 72 dB, which allows an enhanced dynamic range and increased resolution, even under low-amplitude signals. It also includes a wide range of calibration capabilities, such as automatic filtering, range, serial or differential non-linearity, offset or gain and polarization compensation. The MC145010EGR2 operates on the 3-2 quadrature algorithm, and supports the “zeroes channel” determination and the “velocity drift” measurement. These features allow the pulse counter output to provide accurate rotation counts throughout the mechanical system’s speed, acceleration, and deceleration, which is necessary for advanced motor control applications. The on-chip synchronization controller and error checking circuit can detect most faults in the signal wiring and allow the device to recover itself and keep functioning normally. The MC145010EGR2 can work with encoders or sensors that are powered by a single- or dual-ended alternating current and unipolar or bipolar differential current sources, allowing a wide range of applications. In addition, the MC145010EGR2 offers an exceptional noise immunity, providing excellent protection against line-to-line and line-to-ground electrical disturbances and signals. Consequently, the device has a wide range of applications, including controlling servo systems, advanced motor control applications, and force and torque measurements.
