Working Principle of MC14538BDG
The MC14538BDG one-shot is activated (triggered) when a logic-level transition is detected at either of the two retriggerable inputs (IN1 or IN2). When triggered, the pulse width (time period) of the output pulse is determined by the value of a single external timing capacitor (C) and a single external timing resistor (R). If the retrigger input is high, the device is retriggered and the output is held high until the next input pulse condition occurs. When the input triggers, the retrigger input must be low.The reset (RST) input of the MC14538BDG one-shot resets the device, forcing both outputs low. When the RST input is high, the device is reset and the output pulse width is determined by the value of the timing resistor and capacitor. This can be used to reset the one-shot prior to the start of a new pulse cycle or to compare the output pulse width to a reference time period.The output pulse width of the MC14538BDG is directly proportional to the value of the external timing capacitor and resistor of the device. The resistor and capacitor values can be set to create a pulse width up to approximately 100mS for a single supply and 200mS for a dual supply device.
