The MC14555BDG application field and working principle is widely used in logic – signal switches, multiplexers, and decoders. A BiCMOS device, the MC14555BDG is a 14-stage bipolar shift register. It is used in new designs and to replace old LS TTL devices that employ a lower voltage requirement. Not just for multiplexing but for a range of applications, the MC14555BDG is used in applications that involve data acquisition systems, transmitters, receivers, digital logic systems, controllers, and A/D converters.The MC14555BDG includes five sections; the counter section, an input toggle section, an external bypass section, the programmable latch section and the shift register section. The device can be used as a 4-bit counter, an 8-bit shift register, or an 8-bit latch with bi-directional data flow, this describes its multiplexer capabilities.The MC14555BDG shift register works by a type of clock pulse, referred to as a “clock signal”. This is a signal that is generated from an outside source. It is used to read the data bits through a serial port by synchronizing the timing of the clock pulse with the movement of the data bits. When the data bit is clocked in, then the MC14555BDG performs the necessary action for that bit.The counter section of the MC14555BDG can be used to keep track of the number of data bits that have passed. The counter is programmed to count up or down depending upon the data that is sent at the time of the clock pulse. It then sets the control logic, switches and enabling on the rest of the sections of the MC14555BDG.The input toggle section of the MC14555BDG allows the user to select different data sources. This is done by using logic direction, which can be programmed. When combined with the output of the counter section, this enables the user to select a data source to feed the rest of the device with.The external bypass is the primary output of the MC14555BDG. Bypass is done by the serial port, allowing the user to select when to ‘bypass’ the serial data and when to send it. This enables the user to select a data source to feed the remainder of the device with.The programmable latch section of the MC14555BDG allows the user to set the direction in which the data is sent and received. This section contains two internal flip-flops, and a logic control circuit that can be used to control the direction the data is going.Finally, the shift register section of the MC14555BDG consists of two data stages and a eight bit shift register. Once again, the way the data is sent and received can be programmed through the use of logic direction. The shift register is used to shift and store data in a sequential fashion.The MC14555BDG application field and working principle is primarily used in logic – signal switches, multiplexers, and decoders. The device can be used a range of applications from data acquisition systems to digital logic systems, controllers and A/D converters.
