PMIC - SupervisorsThe MC33160DW is an advanced supervisor circuit, providing voltage monitoring and system reset features for a wide variety of applications. It has been designed with minimum system cost in mind, providing reset-only or reset-with-voltage monitoring, along with additional features that make it an attractive solution for many monitoring and system control applications.The MC33160DW is based on a CMOS process and is available in packages with low-profile TSSOP and a pin-compatible SO8W variant tailor made for high-density board space solutions. It provides high level of accuracy while running in a minimum of space. It includes tight voltage monitoring hysteresis and output source/sink drive capability, an Output Enable (OE) feature, and a low voltage detect (LVD) reset, providing a wide range of power-up and power-down monitoring capabilities.The MC33160DW has a wide operating supply range and can be powered from any voltage source between 1.7V and 6V. Its OE input pin is compatible with logic-high and logic-low voltages from the same supply range, allowing for a wide range of configuration possibilities. The MC33160DW supervisor circuit is also tolerant to spurious, outdated, or undefined voltage levels in the RESET output and OE control.In addition to its reset-only or reset-with-voltage monitoring capabilities, other features of the MC33160DW include output source/sink drive capability, a wide range of valid input voltage ranges and propagated reset output assertion at power-up/down and after detecting an undervoltage condition. It has an active-low reset output and a selectable power-up/reset threshold on its comparator, which allows the user to select a reset threshold that considers both valid supply conditions and the typical output slew rate of any voltage regulator used in the system.The MC33160DW\'s outputs provide source/sink drive capability, allowing the user to selectively choose between two methods of controlling the reset pin. The output can be driven either directly as a source output or inversely as a sink output. This allows the user to customize the device\'s reset pin according to their application, without the need for complex external components.When an undervoltage condition is detected, the MC33160DW propagates the output to the active-low state, independent of the OE pin state. This provides an additional monitoring layer against an unexpected supply droop condition that could lead to a functional reset.Also, the MC33160DW has an embedded thermal protection circuit; in the event of an excessive ambient temperature, the thermal protection circuit will activate, driving the reset output low.The MC33160DW provides for a wide range of power monitoring and system control applications in many different electronic devices, ranging from audio and video equipment to mobile phones, handhelds, and other consumer electronics products. It has the ability to detect multiple power conditions, propagate the reset output during power-up/down, and provide source/sink drive functionality, making it ideal for ensuring a safe and reliable system shutdown in the event of a voltage-drop or over-temperature, while also providing additional flexibility in customizing the power-up/reset threshold according to the system\'s requirements.
