MC33AR6000BGWS is a type of Voltage Regulator (VR), which falls into the category of Special Purpose Power Management IC (PMIC). Working Principle


The MC33AR6000BGWS is a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage regulator. In the device, the input voltage is rectified by the diode bridge, and then filtered by Cin capacitor. The filtered voltage is sensed by the input voltage control circuitry connected to the VIN pin. This control circuitry keeps monitoring the voltage and if the voltage drops below a certain threshold, the circuit triggers the PWM logic to reduce the conduction time of the off time of the power switch to increase the output voltage. This in turn reduces the current at the output, thus regulating the output voltage.The MC33AR6000BGWS also has an internal voltage reference (Vref) which works in sync with the current feedback loop. When the Vref is positive and the load current is more than what is expected, the PWM logic reduces the conduction time of the power switch, thus reducing the output voltage. On the other hand, if the load current is less than what is required, the control circuitry increases the duty cycle of the power switch, thus increasing the output voltage.In the MC33AR6000BGWS, the output voltage is fine-tuned with the help of an integrated variable reference voltage. This voltage provides the same voltage to the Vref pin and to the external resistor divider network. This variable reference voltage is also used to prevent over temperature and over current condition by either reducing the current or reducing the duty cycle.
