MC34063LBB GEVB (General Electric Voltage Board) is a renowned off-line, DC/DC or AC/DC SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supplies) integrated circuit from Texas Instruments, which contains all the necessary components to construct a high-performance power conversion system. This versatile single-channel SMPS solution is well suited for numerous applications, such as LED lighting, industrial machinery, and consumer electronics.

The board comprises of a wide range of components, including an MC34063LBB DC/DC controller integrated circuit, an energy pot, an input filter, an opto-isolator, a rectifier, and a voltage regulator. This allows for easy prototyping and evaluation of the entire DC/DC solution, overcoming the need for breadboarding and optimizing the system without any external components or connections. This board contains a 12V voltage regulator that enables the user to drive the DC/DC current and also includes a 100K variable resistor to adjust the output voltage of the DC/DC converter.

The MC34063LBB SMPS solution has an I/O circuit that can accept AC or DC inputs, allowing for greater flexibility when designing a wide range of power conversion systems. When operating in CCM, the MOSFET switch is also driven by the oscillator, however, the current is now regulated instead of the voltage. The device monitors the output current and adjusts the on-time of the switch to maintain the target current. The system compensates for a decrease in load current by increasing the on-time of the switch and vice-versa for an increase in load current.
