When this is reversed, with S0 and S1 being respectively high and low, the data sourced from the D1 will be enabled at Y0, and the data from D3 at Y1 respectively.
The MC74ACT253DG also provides an inhibit function, when the EI (Enable-Inhibite) input is low, it disables all the outputs of both multiplexers. This is particularly useful when needing to stop transmission during heavy system loads, in order to save power or to prevent data overflow. In addition, the simultaneous high S0, S1, and EI inputs will reset both output sets to a low condition.
