MC79L12ACPG

The MC79L12ACPG is an application-specific linear integrated circuit featuring low-dropout regulators (LDOs). Working Principle

The MC79L12ACPG is an adjustable low-dropout linear regulator. It offers precision regulation of output voltage, fast response time and low quiescent current. It is designed to be used as a negative voltage regulator, with an adjustable output voltage range of 3.2V to 15V.

The MC79L12ACPG uses a bipolar transistor coupled to an adjustable error amplifier. The transistor controls the output voltage by changing its current drive of the pass device, based on the error amplifier output. The error amplifier compares the output voltage with an internal reference and adjusts the current drive accordingly.

The pass device of the MC79L12ACPG is formed by two N-channel MOSFETs in a series arrangement, and the quiescent current is minimized by using a MOSFET on the current return path. This device ensures accurate output voltage during light load, thermal protection and current limiting.

The MC79L12ACPG also features a shutdown pin and can respond to changes in the output voltage within 10ms. The current limit is adjustable via external resistors, allowing the user to customize the output voltage to meet the system’s needs.
