MC79L15ACPRPG is a three terminal adjustable linear voltage regulator with immunity to Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) protection that offers the user the benefit of improved line and load regulation, low ripple and noise and excellent temperature stability, as well as wide variety of supply voltage applications. Its efficiency also makes it suitable for a wide range of circuit designs, from single-supply applications to multiple independent integrated circuit power supplies, and for a wide range of temperature and voltage operating conditions.Application Field
The MC79L15ACPRPG regulator is ideal for use in a wide range of applications where a stable, adjustable output is required, such as computers and networking equipment, battery-powered and automotive systems. It is suitable for use in switch-mode and linear power supplies, voltage converters, DC-DC adaptors, CPUS, and audio amplifiers. The MC79L15ACPRPG regulator employs a 3-terminal regulator circuit, in which a control voltage is applied to a control-input terminal that controls the output voltage from the regulator. A feedback circuit is used to regulate the output voltage, while a series-pass transistor will produce the output current and the control voltage. The control voltage is provided by a voltage divider network connected to the output of the regulator, allowing external circuitry to adjust the output voltage of the regulator.The series pass transistor is the controlling element of the regulator. When the control voltage is greater than the output voltage, the transistor turns on and drives the output to the required voltage. When the output voltage is greater than the control voltage, the transistor turns off and offers maximum resistance to the output current.To ensure optimum performance, the MC79L15ACPRPG regulator includes a protection circuit to prevent damage from over-voltage conditions. This protection circuit includes a temperature-controlled sense element that is connected to the power dissipation circuit and is triggered by a preset voltage level. When an over-voltage condition exceeds this level, the power dissipation circuit turns off the series pass transistor, protecting the load and allowing the regulator to return to normal operation once the over-voltage condition is eliminated.Conclusion
