MCIMX253CVM4 is a system-on-chip (SoC) platform processor, equipped with full-function multimedia process capabilities. It includes an ARM Cortex-A9 core, integrated video encode and decode acceleration blocks, advanced image signal processor, and dual-issue media processing unit. According to NXP, the chip is one of the most advanced market-ready commercial-grade SoC devices with the perfect balance between performance and power efficiency. This allows it to be used in a great variety of industrial, consumer and embedded systems requiring multimedia performance and high-level integration.
The MCIMX253CVM4 has a 32-bit ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, dual-issue media processing unit, an image signal processor, a media-rich DDR3/LPDDR2 memory controller and a wide range of I/O interfaces. It is offered in a 227-ball Flip-Chip, Exposed-Pad (FC-EP) package.
The MCIMX253CVM4 has two processing cores, each with its own cache and can be operated independently, but provide the advantages of two-way symmetric multiprocessing or asynchronously as independent cores. Each core also has a 32-bit internal ROM and a 64-bit external ROM with up to 512KB dedicated to each core.
The MCIMX253CVM4 also includes an advanced 2D/3D graphics engine, which allows it to render complex graphics and animations quickly. The graphics engine is supported by a high-performance 2D/3D memory controller and includes support for multiple OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0, OpenVG 1.1, Direct3D 9 and OpenCL 1.1.

Besides the video encode/decode capability, the chip also includes an advanced image signal processor (ISP) suitable for high-performance image processing applications. The ISP supports both RAW and JPEG still images up to 4K resolution, with support for both Bayer and YCC data formats. It also includes high dynamic range (HDR) image processing and video stabilization with image warping, ensuring high-quality images in varied lighting conditions.
The MCIMX253CVM4 helps applications handle I/O throughput to ensure smooth system performance, with up to 32-bit DDR3/LPDDR2 memory controller, LVDS, CSI/DSI and 4xMIPI D-PHY interfaces supporting display resolution up to 4K. It also features a wide range of serial port I/O interfaces, including eMMC, USB 3.0, UART, I2C, CAN and SDIO.
