The MCIMX6U5EVM10AD is an evaluation module designed to assist with the development of system applications. This module is intended to evaluate the performance of Freescale’s i.MX 6UltraLite application processor and provides an interface to many of the on-chip peripherals. The evaluation module contains power and reset switches, USB device and hub ports, as well as audio and video interfaces. The module has four LEDs indicating power, reset, and two user configurable LEDS.
Application Field
This evaluation module is used in the development of embedded systems where performance, low-power and cost are the major requirements. Applications of the MCIMX6U5EVM10AD include consumer products, industrial instruments, automotive instrumentation, and medical grade monitoring systems.
The processor has been designed to provide an implementation path from a number of selected application requirements. The implementation of these application requirements include one of the combination capabilities of video processing, audio decoding, 2D/3D graphics and power management.
Working Principle
The MCIMX6U5EVM10AD is based on the Freescale i.MX 6UltraLite application processor and integrates the following system components: support of high-resolution coldfire MCU, one high-performance ARM Cortex-A7 core @ 500MHz, one ARM-M4 core @ 166MHz, eight user definable LEDs, audio outputs, USB 2.0 peripherals, and Video inputs.
The module has been designed to provide power and reset switches, audio and video interfaces, high speed USB 2.0 connection to the target board, and Ethernet. The module offers an ideal development environment for mobile, consumer grade applications. The module can be connected to a development board to provide a full development suite for use with the Freescale i.MX 6UltraLite processor.
The module utilises the processor\'s Integrated Power Management (IPM) technology to reduce power consumption, provide leading low-power performance, and deliver a high level of energy savings. This allows the module to operate at the highest clock frequency while reducing overall system power consumption and increasing system performance.
The i.MX 6UltraLite processor on the evaluation module is based on the ARM Cortex-A7 core, which is used to process tasks with high performance and low power. This core can also be used to run multiple applications simultaneously, as well as graphics applications, 3D gaming, or video playback.
The ARM-M4 core ensures that background tasks are efficiently executed even when the main processor is idle, while allowing low-power consumption and a long battery life. It is enhanced with a Debug Access Port (DAP) that is used to debug the processor core and the connected peripherals.
The evaluation module includes two additional features for audio and video processing. The audio processor offers a high-performance audio experience with support for up to five active microphones. The video processor supports resolutions up to 1080p, and is capable of encoding and decoding multiple video formats, such as MPEG4, H.264, and AVC.
The MCIMX6U5EVM10AD evaluation module provides all the necessary features to effectively evaluate and develop applications based on the Freescale i.MX 6UltraLite processor. This module can be used to develop cost-effective and high-performance embedded systems with a low power envelope.
