MCP1624-I/MC integrated circuit from Microchip is a part of their Special Purpose Voltage Regulators family of devices. This device is a dual output, high efficiency, synchronous step-down (buck) power converter. It operates from 4.5-50V DC input for applications such as energy harvesting, low voltage system power, battery connectors, PoE and many others.

MCP1624-I/MC provides two synchronous outputs which can be independently regulated from 0-27V with up to 3A of output current. The device is integrated with a MOSFET driver and contains a “Sleep” pin which, when asserted, alarms the MOSFET’s gate driver to enter a low power quiescent mode. The part also includes an integrated programmable timer to control Switching Frequency, Ultralow Iq in Shutdown and Slow-Start.

The aim of the device is to provide a highly efficient, low risk solution when integrated with existing power sources and powering multiple applications. Using its two synchronous outputs, it is possible to develop numerous applications involving low and medium power supply, such as Automotive, Medical, Industrial or Consumer applications.

The operation and working principle of the part can be depicted in a simplified way as follows: the input voltage and current are sensed by the circuit\'s MOSFET driver which is then connected to the main FET to convert the input voltage to output voltage (Vout). The output voltage is then regulated using the syncronized feedback system, by which voltage regulation is achieved. The device will autonomously maintain output voltage at specified levels without user intervention, allowing automated systems to work without additional programming.
