Its Ultra-Low Dropout Linear Regulator sub-circuit allows for output voltage settings ranging from 0.8V to 3.5V with an added Load Switch circuit which allows for the wide input voltage range settings while the current regulation feature is used to optimize the number of pass transistors required for an application.
The MCP1810T-18I/TT features a Low Input Voltage, Low Noise Linear Regulator which helps protect the load in low voltage applications and extend battery run-time. In addition, the device also features an active-high Enable pin to put the load switch into a low current state, commonly referred to as “sleep.” It prevents the output voltage from settling down during power-down conditions and provides a very-high input-to-output voltage ratio.
This device also offers protection against reverse voltage, output short circuit and over-temperature conditions by means of the Fault Detector and thermal shutdown circuitry, extraneous protection against over-temperature, input and output voltage transients, and high peak inrush current, Notching Filter & Reverse Battery Protection. The reverse battery protection provides an optional circuit for enabling and disabling operation of the device with a reverse-battery applied to the input voltage.
The MCP1810T-18I/TT\'s Working Principle is based on a High Gain Push-Pull Regulator with Low Dropout Voltage Format. It uses a high gain control network, consisting of matched sets of P and N-channel transistors, paralleled with one of the transistors placed in reversed biased to form a charge pump. This network produces a higher gain and reduces the drop-out voltage. The MCP1810T-18I/TT is designed to maintain a very low dropout voltage at low line input and high output current capabilities and offer capability to support current of up to 500mA.
